SOHP cosponsors the 2nd Annual conference of the UNC African American History Working Group.February 9 - Oral History Workshop - SOHP oral history trainers Dwana Waugh and Kerry Taylor conduct an oral history workshop at the Hickory Public Library-Ridgeview Branch. Call 828-345-6037 to register. Oral History Course - SOHP Director Jacquelyn Hall is offering History 670: "Oral History and the Study of the Modern South" at UNC. January 23 - Joel Williamson and the Meaning of Southern History: A Video and Symposium. The SOHP cosponsors this celebration of Williamson's legacy at The Carolina Club at the Hill Alumni Center Alumni Room I. Spring-Fall 2007December 4 - Francisco Risso and Juan Ignacio Montes of the Western North Carolina Workers Center speak to SOHP Associate Director Kerry Taylor's US labor history class regarding their efforts to unionize workers at the poultry processing plant in Morganton.October 3-7 - Association for the Study of African American Life and History. SOHP associates Dwana Waugh, Pam Grundy, and Sarah Thuesen present research related to the "Long Civil Rights Movement" at the 92nd annual ASAALH conference in Charlotte. September 24 - Book Release Party for "Journey Through North Carolina." Friends of the SOHP gather at the Love House and Hutchins Forum to celebrate the release of Pamela Grundy's new NC History Textbook. This pathbreaking textbook for 8th graders makes strong use of oral histories from the SOHP collection. Oral History Course - SOHP postdoctoral visiting fellow Dr. Sarah Thuesen is offering History 670: "Introduction to Oral History" at UNC. March 2007 - (four consecutive Wednesdays, March 7, 14, 21, & 28, 6-8 pm) Oral History Workshop: "Reconnecting with Family and Community," SOHP outreach coordinator Beth Millwood offers this comprehensive introduction to oral history, open to all, via the Friday Center's Professional Development and Enrichment Programs.
